Interview with Riddle TM:
1. Why do you play wizard rock?
We play wizard rock because it combines two of our biggest passions - Harry Potter, and music!
2. What do you personally get out of being in a wizard rock band?
We get a good sense of being a part of the HP fandom and contributing towards it in a way we haven't been able to before.
3. What influences your music/your style?
Musically, we're mostly influenced by bands like Coldplay, The Fray, Keane etc. Although our favourite bands are Incubus, Linkin Park and MCR.
4. How long have you been playing?
As a WRock band, we've been playing for nearly two months, although we've played together in our Muggle band for over 3 years or so.
5. Do you plan to continue having shows and writing songs even though
the Harry Potter series has been completed, and why?
Definitely. Just because the books have finished, there's no stopping the fandom or wrock. In some ways, it's now easier to write wrock now the books have finished, because we know the character's stories and can write about them from start to finish, instead of contemplating whether to put in certain lyrics in case they turn out to be wrong, which is handy. But giving up wrock because of the end of Harry Potter would be a terrible shame. Not even Voldemort can stop the wrock!
6. What is your favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?
Definitely the support we get from fans and other bands! The great feedback and response we get is phenomenal. And the feeling of writing about what we love - Harry Potter.
7. What is your least favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?
Uh... I quite honestly can't think of one.
8. What advice do you have for potential future wizard rockers?
Get in touch with sites like wizrocklopedia.com and wizardrock.org, who help to promote you and tell people about your songs! :)
9. How do you explain wizard rock to people who are new to the genre
or to people who (heaven forbid) have never read Harry Potter?
It's a genre of music dedicated to Harry Potter and promoting literacy, and is most often more to do with lyrics than the quality of recording or instrumentation. Plus it simply WRocks! And to those who haven't read the books: read Harry Potter! :P
10. Is your band completely DIY, and do you think that being completely DIY is an integral part of being a wizard rock band?
Yes, we do everything at home on our Apple Macs. I don't think that being DIY is integral, but it is a very honest way of recording music, which I think suits Harry Potter. DIY recording also gives more people the ability to join in and create their own WRock band, since all you really need is a recorder of some kind, an instrument and a bit of imagination! :)
11. Have you ever been approached by a corporate record-label asking to sponsor your band? If so, what was your reaction and if not, what would your reaction be in such a situation?
We've never been asked to be sponsored - if we were, we would probably be comparable to Pigwidgeon in our excitement.
12. Has your band ever had any copyright-infringement issues, and if
so how have you dealt with them?
Not yet! And hopefully not soon. We've copyrighted most of our material, any way.
13. Is there any specific message you would like to share with your fans?
Eat Salads. Salads Are Slytherin!
