Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! The MuggleNet team wishes you and your family a safe, happy, and healthy 2008!

It has been over ten years now since Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in the United Kingdom. At that time, nobody knew what Harry Potter would become and its impact on the world.

To pay tribute, we have put together a Decade in Review highlighting over 50 news stories from the past ten years which shaped the Potter world we've all had the privilege of living in.

Take a look back and enjoy! As time goes on, we'll continue to use this page to chronicle the biggest stories in the Harry Potter fandom. Don't forget, we also have our 2007 Year in Review at this link. BIG thanks go to Kat, Rachel, Nick, Rosey, and Micah for their help in creating this section!

Aww... that review was really sad. And like other people, I also agree that I don`t know where I`d be without Harry Potter. I think I'd have no life, absolutely nothing to believe in, and I would also not have anything to look forward to in the morning. It's really sad that I`ve just got into HP this year, and it makes me frustrated that I didn`t attend a midnight party for the release of DH. But that doesn`t matter- as long as I know I have a true, and pure love for Harry. [: This has been some year, and I`m glad that I got to spend it w/ Harry. XD

Posted by HK47 Jan 1st 2008

I am SO sad I only got into Harry Potter this year. Of course, I read the previous books when I was younger, but I only really got into Harry Potter this final year. However, the series may be over, but it will live on in our hearts, minds, and memories. I would love to see my grandchildren read these books in the future (If I have any that is, lol). I guess Harry Potter isn't truly over; we have the encyclopedia, two movies, and a theme park in the future, so I expect to still have some fun with Harry Potter. And who knows? Perhaps Jo might decide to write more Harry Potter books down the road. As 2008 starts, I want to thank Jo and Harry Potter for what they have given me, without them I would be so sad. Even though I only really got into Harry Potter this year, I already have had great experiences with other fans. The Harry Potter Series is one series I will keep on reading, and will keep with me until the day I die. Happy New Year fellow Harry Potter fans!

Is there a reason why the release of the Prisoner of Azkaban movie in June 2004 isn't mentioned in the review?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Posted by MyLifeDependsOnMugglecast Jan 1st 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I LOVE YOU MUGGLENETERS AND CASTERS! I went to this party at my parent's friend's house.. There was this tree in the 'bonus room' and I named it Jamie:) Everyone asked me why and I just smiled to myself. I'm in the process of naming stuffed animals (yes, i'm a stuffed animal addict) after the casters... I have Andrew the hippo so far... I just love you guys so much and I just wanted you to know that the whole time I was at the party (I'm not a party person) I had a headache.. and I longed to go home and get my iPod... Mugglecast seemed more tempting than usual at that time.. This girl treated me like I was 3! And I'm older than her! Me, my sis and this other girl where sitting out by the fire and this girl said, "I'll be back to check on you soon!" And I'm like, "What does she expect us to do?! Play in the fire?!" I thought of you guys the whole horrible time.. from 8-1.. Six hours of horror... I had Don't Let It Be July (Andrew's parody) stuck in my head the whole time, which made it a bit more bearable. 2007 was a pretty cool year.. Me and my sis turned 711... The gas station type thing.. I made some new friends, I started homeschooling, I started my addiction to mugglecast. 2008 doesn't sound so scary.. 2009 does Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR! LET IT BE A SAFE, HAPPY, HEALTHY, POTTER-FILLED YEAR!

When I die, in say, 80 years, I want all my prized possessions with me. I'll have my 11" Holly wand (from Alivans) with me, my hogwarts ring, my 7 HP DVDs, and the seven most wonderful objects that I have ever held.

I feel so incredibly lucky to be apart of Harry Potter History. I think it means more to our generation because we get to be apart of all the magic that is Harry Potter. I hope when I am older that I can read these stories to my children and still feel the excitement that I do today. What will be in store for the future? I'll guess we'll have to wait and see. Happy New Year!

I hadn't even heard of Harry Potter until I was in the 9th grade. We used to tease those who called themselves "HP Crazy", thinking how kiddish they could get. An year later, HP&TSS was released. I watched it just for the heck of it, found that there was something to it. So, I watched it again & again & again. Finally, I bought the boxed-set of first four books. Read the first one..liked it {My favourite "person" (mind you, I wouldn't say 'character' because it makes them sound lifeless) was Dumbledore}. Finished the rest three and realised that I was the one being laughed at and I knew exactly how the "HP Crazies" felt. I didn't care about who said what..I had begun to love the series, followed all the HP news religiously when I came across Mugglenet during the wait for OOTP. I had never felt so intensely for anything or anyone. I was so attached to the HP world that I used to howl and scream and get all excited whenever I saw or heard anything (ya, just about ANYTHING) related to it. Mugglenet was like a holy place to me (and still is). With each passing year of all the theories we formulated, waited impatiently outside bookstores, literally had all the movie dialogues on our fingertips, fought with "HP Haters",argued on all discussion boards, laughed and cried with every "person",hailed Jo for such a phenomenal contribution to the world..I am so happy that it brought us all together, made us feel special in a way that all night we would be in hope of recieving a letter from Hogwarts to embark on an adventure with Harry Potter- The Boy Who Lived.. I admire Jo not because she had struggled through life and written seven books but her way of telling the world that there's always hope at the end of the day. I thank her from the bottom of my heart and am proud to call myself "HP Crazy".

Posted by Dobby4ever Jan 1st 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I really loved 2007 as a Harry Potter year. So much happend! DH, OotP movie, Announcement of the theme park, the documentary about Jo etc. HP changed my life dramatically. I doubt that I would be so fond of reading if I had never read Harry Potter. They are without doubt the best books ever! It has been too long a times since I made a comment here last. But I have been so busy with school(just started High-School in a whloe new place. We moved just before the summer holidays) But I have checked the news all the time! I hope that 2008 will be a great year for everyone! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Posted by HPBrian Jan 1st 2008

It's funny how things change so rapidly. The first book was released in the UK 15 months before we got in in the US. If that had been tried just a couple of years later, all hell would have broken loose (the whole "Dumbledore is gay" thing would have seemed an Sunday afternoon tea party in comparison)!

Posted by TheQuiet1 Jan 1st 2008

I get kind of sad, reading through all these posts, and thinking about all I missed. I fond Harry Potter right after Half-Blood Price was released, so DH was my first -and last- release party. Somehow, in the middle of 2006, I really got sucked right into this fandom and I fell in love. I hate leaving it so soon.... Now I look at the reviews of last year and remember how wonderful this whole thing has been, how much it has meant to me. I've always been amazed at how quickly I jumped into the fandom and how quickly it became such a huge part of my life.... It just sucks, getting so little time. There is so much I wished I had done while it lasted. Alright, I'm done venting. ^_^

Posted by potterwatch17 Jan 1st 2008

wow... 10 years... could you imagine what they would've been like if there was no harry potter? it has been my escape from reality since i was 10... and of course when i finished DH, i burst into tears, cuz i realized its all over... but then i realized- COMFORT FOR THE H.P. FANS OUT THERE: IMAGINE IF YOU WERE BORN A COUPLE OF YEARS EARLIER OR LATER, WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THESE LAST 10 YEARS OF TRUE MAGIC... WE'RE THE LUCKY ONES, WHO GREW UP IN THE DECADE OF H.P. Jo, if you're reading this, thanks for everything- the stories, the laughs, the lessons, the values, the formation of a new world that we all escape to when times get hard... I love you! Well anyway, time moves on whether we like it or not, but the beauty of the book- is that u can always just open up to any book, any chapter, and land urself right back in to that world... happy new years everyone

First off, happy new year everyone. Secondly, thanks to everyone who posted a "memoir" of sorts about their Harry Potter experiences. Some of them made me tear up. And here's mine... Harry Potter has been a huge part of my life since just before OotP (book) came out. My earliest HP memory is of me when i was 6 or 7, asking my brother to get "Sorcerer's Stone" for me from the library. He wouldnt cos he thought that it would be too long for me. Needless to say, he was wrong. I read the first four in the six months before OotP came out. While i waited for the release of HBP, i read and reread the other books. When the release date of HBP was announced, i immediately went to Borders website and pre-ordered it. I couldnt go to the midnight party (*curses parents*), but i still got it the day it was released and read it in one day. Later that summer, i went to London with my dad and got the British "adult edition" of HBP. (What can i say- it has a better cover!) When DH was released, i went to the midnight release party. I was dressed in my "7-21-07...Who will die?" shirt from Hot Topic, a Slytherin tie from Whimsic Alley, an "I trust Severus Snape" pin, Slytherin Prefect pin, and Slytherin crest pin. I ended up being number 5 in line- thanks to a friend i ran into at the store. I got my book and burst into tears right there in the bookstore, with hundreds of people staring at me. I couldnt believe that i was holding in my hands the conclusion to the series. I looked at the inside of the book jacket, where the summary usually is, and cried. I saw the end of the dedication and cried. When characters died, i cried. I was literally sitting in my room at 3 am, crying. Today? Today, i wear Harry Potter clothes, read and write fanfictions, strongly support certain ships, have met JKR (at the LA book tour), and the first thing that i say about myself is always always always "i am obsessed with Harry Potter." It isnt an insult- it's a title. THANK YOU JKR AND MUGGLENET!

happy new year! I'm leaving this comment to express my annoyance (well more like outrage) at something and i don't know who else to contact. I have recently learned that James and Oliver Phelps are not credited to be in Half Blood Prince, neither is the girl who plays Fleur Delacour. I am outraged at this! The twins are a vital part of the HP story (and personally my favourite characters), they stood by Harry all the way and one of them lost their lives fighting for freedom. They added humour in a dark story. We see them in the beginning and end of HBP and they also visit Ron on his birthday in the middle of the book. So why leave them out? I know its only a strory but I am sick of my favourite books being ruined with the pathetic attempts to make them into movies. The movies have ruined the books for me and I've had enough. Not only are they leaving out the twins, but they aren't even including Fleur and Bill in HBP. We all know that Fleur and Bill's engagement is announced in HBP and Bill also gets attacked by Greyback (a tragic event for the Weasleys). Bill and Fleurs wedding is in the start of DH so they can't just randomly put it in without showing them in HBP. I'm annoyed that Bill and Charlie haven't been shown in any of the films (they were both meant to be GOF!) AND NOW they're leaving out the twins. Enough is enough, i refuse to go see this movie unless they get their act together and start being true to the books! I really want to know if you guys agree plz reply babes412@gmail.com

Thanks Jk for the years of memories of reading with my family and because of JK I have started writing my own book.
